What you can do

Everything the calculator does, level by level

Every level prices a quote from your own costs. Each step up adds more of what a busy print shop needs.

Every level

Price from your own costs

Filament, electricity, machine wear, labor, failed prints and one-time model costs, all added up and turned into a price at your target profit margin. Round the price to a whole dollar, and charge a share of what you paid for a model. Hand customers a clean quote PDF; your costs stay private.

Basic

Up to 4 filaments on Basic, 6 on Plus, 8 from Professional

Price prints that use several filaments, up to 4 on Basic, 6 on Plus and 8 from Professional, each with its own material, color and spool cost.

Free and up

Keep your quotes

Save a priced order as a quote and the price stays as it was, even if your costs change. Free keeps 5, Basic keeps 25 with numbers and auto-save, Plus keeps 50, and Professional keeps 75.

Basic

Compare quotes

Put two quotes for the same thing side by side. Every field shows the difference, green for up and red for down, and you can export it as CSV.

Plus

Read a sliced 3MF or an STL

Drop in a sliced Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer file. Print time and filaments fill in, and each filament is matched to yours by maker, material and color. An STL gives a rough filament weight before you slice.

Plus

3D viewer and several files per order

Attach the 3MF, STL, OBJ or CAD files for a quote and turn the model in a 3D viewer. Plus keeps 50 saved quotes.

Plus

More than one printer

Keep up to 2 printers on Plus, and up to 8 from Professional, each with its own price, power and nozzle, and pick one for each quote.

Professional

Compare printers and filaments

See the same order priced on each of your printers, and what you would gain or lose by switching to a different filament.

Professional

ROI charts and reports

See when each printer pays for itself, with PDF and CSV exports of the reports.

Professional

Your spool inventory

Bring in a Spoolman or FilaMan export file as your filament list, and edit a group of filaments at once: change their maker, material or spool cost, or delete them together.

Professional

Quantity price brackets

Charge a lower margin on bigger orders, automatically. Set up to 20 brackets; from each quantity up, its margin replaces your target margin.

Professional

Unlimited filaments, printers and users

Keep as many filaments and printers as you need, add named users who share your quotes and costs, and pull your spool inventory straight from your own Spoolman or FilaMan server.

What each level includes

Every level includes everything in the levels before it. Free is the calculator you can try without paying.

Did you know?

The cost behind every print

You weighed the filament, did the quick math, and sent the quote. It felt fair. Then the printer ran all night, one print failed, you lost an hour to supports and packing, and the margin you thought you had quietly disappeared.

Filament

Is the spool the whole story?

Filament is only part of what a print costs. Quote from grams alone and everything else comes out of your pocket.

Color changes

Do color changes cost you filament?

Switching colors mid-print purges material that never ends up in the part. It's real filament you paid for, so it belongs in the quote.

Electricity

Does your printer run on free power?

It draws electricity for every hour of every print, including the long overnight ones. That cost rides along on every order and grows with print time.

Machine payback

Who earns back the printer?

It had a purchase price, and every hour of printing wears it and its nozzles a little more. Price only the plastic and you're borrowing from your future self.

Failed prints

Who pays for the print that didn't make it?

A failed print still used material and machine time. If the price only covers the ones that worked, the failures come straight out of your profit.

Your time

How long does a "quick job" really take?

Setup, support removal, finishing, packing, replies and any design work all happen when the printer isn't running. Labor counts even when no one is watching a clock.

Margin and fees

Is a markup the same as a margin?

No, and mixing them up shaves your profit. Marketplace and payment fees come out of what you charge, so the margin you want has to cover them too.

None of this is complicated. It's just spread across places nobody checks while a customer waits for a quote. The Print Calculator puts your own numbers in one workbook, so the price follows your costs and your target margin.

A quote that only covers the filament is a gift.

In the price

What's counted for you

These are all inputs in the workbook, and you set them. Change a cost and the price follows.

Electricity

The power bill is covered.

Every print draws power for as long as it runs. The workbook prices electricity from your printer's draw and your own rate.

Asset depreciation

Your printer's cost is counted.

Your printer is a business asset that loses value with every hour it runs. The workbook spreads its purchase price over its useful life, so each print carries its share.

Wear and nozzles

Wear and nozzles are accounted for.

Machine wear and nozzle replacement are priced in for every hour of printing, so the repair is already in the quote when it comes due.

Failed prints

Failed prints get priced in.

A failure allowance spreads the cost of failed attempts across the parts that work, so the cost of a failure isn't left on you.

Labor

Your labor is its own line.

Labor is its own line in the quote, so setup and finishing time is priced in, not donated.

Design and licenses

Design time is priced into the run.

Design hours and the cost of a licensed model are added to the order, so they're in the price, and in the per-piece price too.

Many filaments

Each filament gets its own line.

Add several filaments to one order, each with its own grams and cost. Running an AMS? Enter its purge waste too, and it's priced at that material's rate.

Printer profiles

Each machine gets its own profile.

Keep a profile for each printer and pick the one you're using. Each carries its own settings, so the quote matches the machine.

Packaging

Boxes and tape are counted.

Packaging and consumables go into the order, so the tape and boxes aren't paid for out of your margin.

Tax and shipping

Tax and shipping get their own cells.

Enter a sales tax rate and a shipping cost. Shipping is part of the order cost, and tax is added after your profit.

Currency

Quote in another currency.

Enter your own exchange rate and the quote converts to your customer's currency. Your costs stay in USD.

Target margin

Your margin sets the price.

Set the margin you want and the price is worked out from it, instead of adding a guess on top.

It's easy to leave a dozen things to luck.
This one asks about each.

And there's more

The same workbook plans ahead

The Scenarios and ROI sheets use the numbers you already entered, so you can plan as well as quote.

Scenarios

Which printer and filament suit this job?

Compare up to 15 printer and filament combinations for the same order, each priced at your target margin, with charts.

ROI over time

What does the printer return, on your numbers?

See payback over time from your own assumptions: orders per month, growth, and what the printer and license cost. It's an illustration, not a sales forecast.

Your catalogs

Keep the whole shop in one place.

Save up to 200 printer profiles and 50 filaments, then pick them by number when you quote.

Inside the web calculator

Your file. Your costs. A clearer quote.

A look at the actual app, from matching a sliced file’s filaments to comparing the numbers behind an order.

01 / IMPORT A SLICED FILEPlus and up

Let the slicer do the typing.

Plus reads a Bambu Studio or Orca 3MF, fills in time and filaments, and matches each one to yours. Plus also keeps more than one printer, with a choice for every quote.

02 / INSPECT THE MODELPlus and up

See the part behind the price.

Plus keeps the files with each quote and opens them in a 3D viewer with a view cube. 3MF, STL and OBJ.

03 / A QUOTE YOUR CUSTOMER CAN SIGNEvery level

A quote your customer can sign

Export a customer quote: your logo and details, the item and total, the model and its filaments, payment terms, and a signature block. Costs and margin stay private.

04 / BIGGER ORDERS, AUTOMATIC DISCOUNTSProfessional and up

Bigger orders, automatic discounts

Quantity brackets let you set a lower margin from any quantity up, and the price follows. A live chart shows exactly where the price steps down, and where your quote sits. Every level below sees this locked.

05 / COMPARE YOUR PRINTERSProfessional and up

Same order. Different economics.

Professional prices the same order on each of your printers, at your margin, and shows what you would gain by switching filament.

Actual app screens with sample data. Results depend on your inputs; feature access depends on your license level.

More of the calculator:

Profit and payback

Price for profit. Plan for payback.

Set a target margin and the calculator prices the quote to match. At Professional and above, ROI charts show how long each of your printers takes to pay for itself, on your own assumptions.

Profit
Set a target margin and see the price and the profit on the whole quote before you send the quote.
ROI
Enter your monthly orders and growth. The ROI charts show payback for up to three printers from your assumptions.

The chart animation is illustrative, not a forecast. Your results depend on the numbers you enter.

Why I built it

I couldn't find the calculator I wanted

I was trying to figure out how to make a profit from my 3D printing. I went looking for a cost calculator and kept finding gaps. I wanted to make it mine. So I did what any engineer would do: I spent too much time building a better spreadsheet. Then I made it a web app.

The gaps

Someone else's process, not mine.

The tools I tried meant bending my workflow around someone else's process. Currency was one gap. The technology was another.

The itch

Not enough knobs to turn.

So I built the knobs. Printers, filaments, labor, overhead, margin and currency rate are all yours to set.

The fix

Right up my alley.

I like knowing what's going on behind the scenes. Building it myself meant I knew where each number comes from.
